This poster was created during the middle of the last century, in a period of educational reform in Germany. The series was named after the three men who created it (Jung, Koch, and Quentell): a doctor, an artist, and a teacher. Together, they sought to improve the quality of educational materials in Germany; these charts were the product of their collaboration. The posters are famous for their vibrant colors and scientific detail. One of the most notable features about this series is absence of text, making the posters a beautiful and incredibly versatile teaching tool (translation was not required).

These charts were originally published by Frommann & Morian until 1930. From 1930 onwards, the charts were published by Hagemann publishing house. The earliest prints were labeled "in working partnership with" (in Arbeitsgemeinschaft mit) Frommann & Morian Verlag in the bottom right hand corner. This text is only found on the earliest Hagemann charts, and was only printed until the early 1960s, meaning the charts with this designation are rare.
